RL 3D-printed shoes !

February 22, 2010

Naim Josefi and Souzan Youssouf, students from two prestigious design schools in Sweden, have created these interesting, wearable shoes made of polyamid, through a process called 3D printing.

The students built five pairs for Naim’s “Melonia” collection, and the shoes were shown during a Stockholm fashion show on February.

I think it shouldn’t be hard to export a SL sculpted shoe to a 3D model compatible with this process… So wouldn’t you like to have your best SL shoes in your RL closet ?

I guess they would be really uncomfortable 🙂

Check here for pics of the RL fashion show, including some weird clothing accesories also made with 3D printing.

Shadow Dancing

May 5, 2009

Check out this amazing animation by Lordfly Digeridoo… making extensive use of dynamic shadows, a feature currently available on Kirstenlee Cinquetti’s s17 viewer (to be added to the regular SL viewer, eventually… so start saving RL money for a huge computer upgrade :P).

Check the multiple shadows on the floor as the light sources move… and also notice the projected textures on the walls and boxes, that’s another new functionality.

Awesome dance animation, btw…

Is this cool or what ?

April 7, 2009

You may have noticed we just added a tiny widget on the right sidebar showing our SL status (if we’re online in SL at that time or not). I think it’s a fantastically cool thing, so simple and yet very clever. It’s a link between two worlds…

So… as you’re reading this… Sandy is and I am in SL !

Also it amazes me, the program behind this trick (the API) was created by Katharina Berry, a young hacker (in the true, purest sense of the word), who is also the creator of AjaxLife (SL from your browser and much more !). She’s so young she’s still on the teen grid ! And she can’t get her own Paypal account (because she’s under 18) so had to use a “trusted adult” account… So young and so talented… wow.

Anyway, if you want to add the API to your site, forum profile or whatever, so people can see in real time whether or not you’re online in SL, the very simple instructions are here. We used Method #3 (transparent PNG).

OK enough of technical stuff for now, let’s explore and shop some more 😛
See ya around 🙂
